Enid oilman Harold Hamm and his wife, Sue Ann, were named among a group of Oklahoma businessmen and women to chair the election campaign of Corporation Commissioner Jim Roth.

Joining the Hamms will be Clayton and Louise Bennett, Oklahoma City; George and Cookie Kaisar, Tulsa; and Aubrey and Katie McClendon of Oklahoma City.

Roth lines up supporters

Corporation Commissioner Jim Roth, an Oklahoma City Democrat appointed by Gov. Brad Henry when Republican Denise Bode resigned last year, is lining up an interesting and perhaps surprising cast of supporters. It includes conservatives Aubrey McClendon and Clayton Bennett and Enid oilman Harold Hamm, who is normally a Republican donor.

Good call: Roth great choice for vacancy

Cliche it may be, but we have to say it anyway: Oklahoma County's loss is Oklahoma's gain with the selection of Jim Roth to succeed Denise Bode on the state Corporation Commission.

Bode is leaving to run a foundation. She had nearly four years to go on a six-year term, but Roth - appointed by Gov. Brad Henry to replace Bode - must stand for the office next year if he wants to keep it.
